Application Letter

Dear Madam/Sir

I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you and discuss the building apprenticeship I saw advertised in the Wanaka Messenger. I would like to ask you more about this position and to discuss with you what I can bring to the position as an apprentice with your team. I have been hoping to begin an apprenticeship before the end of this year, and have been eager to find the right company.

I have looked through your website and am aware of some of the building projects you have done over the past couple of years. I have asked around and you have a really good reputation as builders and also employers. I would very much like to be a part of your team.

I have always been interested in building, having grown up in Wanaka surrounded by the building industry. I watched my father do an adult building apprenticeship and see the opportunities that have came his way and the positive outcomes on how its changed his life. He is now happier in his work, more focused and he has a whole lot of new skills that make him feel more confident.

I enjoy sport including rugby, basketball and athletics and i think my general fitness and strength would be a bonus in the building trade. I am passionate about art and design and enjoy the creative process of taking an idea and problem solving and thinking outside the box. These skills would be an advantage to reading and following plans and visualizing concept through to finished product. I enjoy being accurate and seeing a job through to the end at a standard that i am happy with. I have represented my school in a variety of sports. I mix easily with a variety of people of all ages. I am calm and easy going. If enjoy having a good laugh either at myself or with others and love to be involved in team activities.

I like to work outside (in all conditions) and with my hands. I enjoy making and constructing things. I am familiar with the use of some tools and I was lucky enough to have the experience of building a shed with my Dad recently. I felt really inspired to be able to create something useful with my own hands. I realize the importance of health and safety and i would like to get my work site first aid in the next couple of months.

My previous work experience as assistant grounds person at Lakeside Wanaka has prepared me well for self managing and also working as part of a team. I was responsible for pool cleaning, grounds and general maintenance. I had to work with the public at times and other staff members. I enjoy giving attention to detail, getting things right and I look forward to learning new skills that will allow me to become a fully qualified builder.

I love Wanaka. I have secure accommodation and family support here and I would be ready to start immediately. Please let me know if you need more information from me. Please find attached a copy of my CV and reference. I look forward to hearing back from you and meeting you in person.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours sincerely

Wesley Moore
